The ProMedia GMX A-2.1 is made up of 2 metallic satellites, a subwoofer and amplifier. The satellites are each made up of a 0.75 inch metallic polymer tweeter and a 3 inch metallic fiber-composite mid-bass with Klipsch own MicroTractrix horns. Nominal power for the satellites is 14W at 1% THD. This is all encased in a metallic silver enclosure, which is sure to blend in with even the most modern of decors. The set is not complete without its 6.5 inch fiber-composite subwoofer which contains a 75W amplifier. The subwoofer can deliver 108dB maximum sound level, but 50W continuous with 2% THD could be considered to be the real maximum. The subwoofer contains a rear slot port which provides cleaner bass, as opposed to the design of other models. This port can assist with decreasing the amount of unwanted sound effects that can sometimes be created by the air flow through other shaped ports.
FeaturesThe ProMedia GMX A-2.1 comes complete with a control pod that can be used to control the bass levels as well as volume. This control panel also includes a headphone jack as well as 2 auxiliary inputs which makes it great for use with your game console. The only possible negative for this feature is the fact that it does not contain a treble control. Other than that, it is a great feature for those who have always dreaded having to crawl under the desk to adjust the bass level. Now it can be done from an easy to use pod. The satellites are designed with a ball and socket fitting that allows them to pivot and rotate up to 45 degrees. This feature is perfect for making fine tune adjustments so you can get the best listening experience out of your speakers. One of the ProMedia GMX A-2.1 best features may also be its downfall. While it offers a modern look and feel, this design also leaves it delicate cones vulnerable to damage. While most speakers have protected this delicate area of the speaker with a screen, the ProMedia GMX A-2.1 puts them on the display which is a great design feature for adult homes, but use caution if young kids may be roaming about. PerformanceThe ProMedia GMX A-2.1 performs rather well for a setup of this size. Mid tones do well and the bass can be pushed to the limits of tolerability. Yet the loud, thumping bass that the subwoofer can provide can at times also be its downfall. Push the level too high and you may be subject to some distortion, but this can easily be remedied by just turning the bass down to levels that are more pleasing, than painful to the ear. The bass can also create some unwanted vibrations that end up providing a slightly metallic vibration noise in the background, which runs the risk of ruining a perfectly good listening experience. SummaryIn conclusion, the ProMedia GMX A-2.1 is a great all in one system for the average user. If your goal is a system that provides thumping bass that tends to overshadow the performance of the satellites, then this may be the setup for you. Pros
