Skullcandy MFM Pro: Review

Skullcandy MFM Pro: Review
There are a lot of interesting new products out there and the Skullcandy MFM Pro certainly fits in the category of "Well duh, that makes sense." With as popular as MP3 players have been over the past few years, this is a nonsensical addition to the pack. At 1 gig, it will play over an hour of music through quality speakers with 40mm drivers.

Though this may be a good idea, there is really only a certain demographic that will flock to these however due to the size and design of the headphones. As if we really need to give teenagers one more reason to act like they didn't hear their parents beckoning, it does make a great gift for the younger market, giving them an MP3 player and a nice set of wireless headphones at the same time.

Rating:  3.8 out of 5

Value

Skullcandy, while the name might leave to debate, actually provides many different types of quality headphones and other products for the sound junky. This one is even recommended by Marc Frank Montoya (pro snowboarder), thus the MFM in the product title. For around $170, you can get a pretty nice MP3 player larger than one gig, but when considering the package you are getting; it's a decent price to pay. Obviously, because these things are selling like hotcakes online and in stores. Several sites I went to were sold out.

Performance

The headphones themselves have 40mm drivers delivering great high and low frequencies with the MP3 player. They can also become wired to use for other devices such as your computer or portable DVD player. The bass will rattle your head too, so if that is the candy you seek, you'll definitely like the MFM Pro. Just the functionality of the MP3 player is great too. The USB flash MP3 player is detachable has an attachable battery pack and a head phone input in case you need to use a different set of head phones for one reason or another. It has a voice recorder, though it has rather limited range, it beats post it notes all over your chest if you're on the go. It plays MP3, WMA and DRM files, you can delete songs directly from the MP3 player without the need of a computer, it can be used independently of the headphones, and it can also be used as a storage device if needed.

Summary

Given the good review, I will say that I would never actually wear these personally. If I'm at home, I'm enjoy my music through the speakers and on the road, though I do lose some sound quality, I just prefer the more portable ear buds. But, I can see a large population of the younger demographic loving these. The Skullcandy MFM Pro is a quality product that is worth looking into should you or someone you know be interested.

Pros

  • Wireless headphones for your MP3 player
  • Good sound quality with 90 degree swivel speakers
  • A great gift for the 'hard to guess' young person
  • Headphones and 1 gig MP3 can be used together or apart
  • Interesting twist on an oversaturated MP3 market

Cons

  • There are no cons for this product
