Klipsch RW-12d Review

Posted to Speakers 2009-03-11

If you are looking to get quality bass performance out of your home theater setup, then you may want to think about adding the Klipsch RW-12d to your lineup. This subwoofer provides the same bass performance that can be found in its high end siblings, yet it is affordable enough for the average home theater aficionado. Those looking for hard thumping, room vibrating bass will be impressed with what the RW-12d has to offer.

Measuring 19.2-" x 14.6-" x 21-" and weighing 49 lbs, the RW-12d offers audiophiles quality thumping bass in a well thought out package. With Bass Reflex that uses a front firing corner port enclosure, the RW-12d provides a maximum output of 116 db at 30Hz. The subwoofer includes a BASH digital hybrid amplifier that provides 350 watts of continuous power at <2% THD which utilize a 12-" front firing Cerametallic woofer. The subwoofer also provides a frequency response of 24 to 120 Hz.

Features

While some may consider this just another subwoofer, the RW-12d contains some features that make it stand out from the rest. The subwoofer has corner port technology that allows the port tube to be as long as possible, without the need to bend the tube. This functionality decreases the possibility of port noise and distortion, providing for a more enjoyable listening experience. This also allows the enclosure to be tuned lower, which creates richer, deeper bass.

The RW-12d is a Digitally Controlled Subwoofer (DCS) which provides users with a digital interface that provides users with access to adjust many of the subwoofers functions. This unit also provides users with the ability to select from three different equalization modes, which include flat, depth, and punch. Users also have the ability to select one of three different presets which include music, movie, and night. These presets allow the user to make manual adjustments to create the perfect listening experience.

Performance

The RW-12d provides the performance home theater aficionados have come to expect from Klipsch. The subwoofer is built to last and provides the same high quality bass as its higher priced siblings, but at a more affordable price.

Volume adjustments are simple and can either be done directly on the subwoofer itself, or the user has the option to recall previous volume setting via the digital control panel.

If you prefer a unit that can provide you with solid bass, with great house vibrating bass, your wishes become a reality with the RW-12d. This subwoofer can produce true bass that can deliver room shaking performance, whether you are watching a movie or enjoying the music of your favorite artist on your stereo.

Summary

In conclusion, the Klipsch RW-12d provides the same quality bass that audiophiles have come to expect from the Klipsch line of speakers. Those looking for deep, thumping base, that may be strong enough to bother your neighbors, will fall in love with the quality performance the RW-12d can provide. If deep bass is not your thing, then the RW-12d may not be the way to go.
