Magellan Maestro 4350: Review
Magellan Maestro 4350 review:

The next time you venture out of the house and onto the highways; don't leave without taking the 4.3-inch Magellan Maestro 4350 Portable GPS Navigator, which includes Bluetooth, 2D/3D maps, and integrated traffic. This high-value GPS contains nearly all the available features on a portable GPS and only lacks voice recognition and a few other features. Despite substandard customer service and several defective models, the Magellan Maestro is an all-around great navigator for any traveler. And for the price, this product is almost too hard to beat.

At just 4.65" x 0.70" x 3.26" and 7.39 oz, the Magellan Maestro 4350 GPS is the perfect companion for the traveler's car, whether for city or country. This model features a crisp, 4.3-inch color screen that displays a user-friendly navigational interface, such as interchangeable 2D, 3D, and street-view versions of maps. Other exciting features include Bluetooth, traffic, FM radio, and more. The Maestro 4350 is also WAAS-enable for better accuracy. Navigational performance is superb in the city, but below-expectations for rural areas. Overall, this is one of the best GPS systems for the price.

Rating:  4.4 out of 5

Value

With almost too many features and capabilities to list, it's no wonder why this model is at the top of several "best buys" for portable GPS devices. The price is nearly half of competing GPS models, yet the Magellan Maestro 4350 comes with just about every feature available except voice recognition. Although the traffic feature is only free for six months, the $60 per year subscription fee is well-worth the cost, especially since saving time is what you need.

Features

Not only does the Maestro 4350 feature 3D historic landmarks and points of interest, but it also comes with pre-loaded maps of the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico in three modes of viewing. There also 6 million waypoints included on those maps. This touch-screen GPS features a 2GB SD memory card, which is capable of holding photos, mp3s, and additional maps. Because it is Bluetooth-enabled, this GPS allows for hands-free cellular operations. In addition to the integrated FM radio tuner, the traffic feature gives the user valuable information such as speed camera alerts and highway congestion issues (with subscription). Although we are disappointed that this model lacks voice recognition, overall we are impressed by the number of features for the price.

Summary

If you tend to get lost or confused while navigating the highways, then consider buying the Magellan Maestro 4350 portable GPS for your vehicle. And with a battery life of nearly 3 hours, this model is great for outside of the car too. It isn't perfect as far as performance (defective models freeze-up), but the features are undeniably impressive when comparing the price to competing models. Sure, there are less expensive GPS systems available, but very few pack the number of capabilities that this 4.3-inch touch-screen Magellan offers.

Pros

  • Lightweight and portable, yet versatile and capable
  • Features integrated Bluetooth and traffic information
  • Boasts a battery life of up to 3 hours for out-of-vehicle usage

Cons

  • Several map flaws and suffering performance in rural areas
  • Poor customer support, but great product for the price
