HP Photosmart C6380 All-In-One: Review
Review: Hewlett Packard (HP) Photosmart C6380 All-In-One Printer, Scanner, Copier

The HP Photosmart C6380 CD028A All-In-One Printer, Scanner, Copier represents a solid value in an all-in-one printer designed for home or light duty small business use. It really stands out in the connectivity department. Excellent photo printing quality and features make it ideal for home use, while lack of a fax modem or document feeder keep it out of the small business class.

The C6380 features a wealth of photo-friendly features. You can print photos directly from memory cards, from cameras with PictBridge interface or a USB stick. Photo print quality is excellent with resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 dpi. There's a separate photo paper tray so you don't have to swap paper back and forth to print photos and text. And it's no slacker when it comes to scan quality either, with resolution up to 4800 dpi in hardware and 19200 in software. In addition, you can scan directly to a USB stick.

Rating:  4.6 out of 5

Value

The C6380 is a bit pricey for a home printer, but it is still an excellent value because of its numerous features. It features excellent print speed, and prints in color (31ppm) almost as fast as in black and white (33ppm). HP has utilized a 5-ink system similar to Canon's, which means you only have to replace the colors as they run out. On the downside, a complete set of cartridges is a bit pricey (approx. $80 for the high-capacity cartridges). Scanning speed and resolution are excellent, too.

Features

You can't say enough about the features packed into this all-in-one gem. Support for every sort of memory device imaginable, including cameras with PictBridge, built-in WiFi, USB and Ethernet connectivity, a second USB port that prints directly from or scans directly to a USB stick, and a 2.4" LCD display for standalone operation and access to feature menus. The separate text and photo paper trays add convenience, and printing speeds are fast for a printer in this price range. Setup is easy, and the included software suite allows you to easily perform all of the functions this printer is capable of.

Summary

If your budget for a home or light duty small business all-in-one printer is in the middle range, you won't find a better value than the Photosmart C6380. This is particularly true if you do a lot of photo printing - you can't beat the specs and features in this area. Setup is easy for both wired and wireless network use, and there is no shortage of connectivity options. HP has really done their homework (pardon the pun) on this one.
