Toshiba 52RV535U: Review

Toshiba is well known for producing quality products at low prices, and they've succeeded at this once again with the Toshiba 52RV535U 52-" LCD TV. The TV features TFT active matrix technology for improved brightness, is HD 720p and 1080p ready, and comes in an attractive high gloss black cabinet.

The 52RV535U features 3 HDMI connectors, S-Video, Component video and composite video inputs, a PC VGA input connector, and both analog and digital tuners. The unit features 4 widescreen modes - 16:9, Letterbox, WideScreen and TheaterWide. It also features a 3:2 pulldown mode for non-HD DVDs and built-in stereo speakers.

Value

This is by far the most reasonably priced 52inch LCD TV on the market. Yet its performance easily rivals that of the competition. While it's not intended to be the centerpiece for a media center, it is a good start at a home theater system. Couple it with a good surround sound system and you've got a true theater experience in your living room. The included universal remote should integrate well with your other components, and the on-screen menus are easy to use.

Performance

The 52RV535U produces stunning HD video quality, even in bright lighting. The TFT Advanced Matrix technology is enhanced with several other Toshiba video technologies to produce an excellent picture under most any lighting conditions. The built-in speakers are quite small, so you'll definitely want to augment them with at least a pair of external stereo speakers and at most a full surround system. But you can't beat the video performance at this price point.

Summary

The 52RV535U easily rates a best buy in its class. Toshiba has a knack for producing the same quality and performance at a lower price than the competition, and they've done a good job with the 52RV535U. So if you're in the market for a good foundation on which to build your home theater system, this device definitely deserves to be on your shortlist.
