Measuring 2.3-" x 16.9-" x 10.6-" and weighing only 6.8 lbs, the BD-P2550 provides users with a level of performance that may be hard to find on other players. Dressed in a glossy, minimalist type package the BD-P2550 can support an array of resolution options, while allowing users to play more than just Blu-ray DVD's. The player can support 480p, 720p, 1080i, 480i, 1080p60 and 1080p24 resolutions while allowing users the option to play standard and Blu-ray DVD's as well as CD's. Video output options are composite, component, or HDMI and the supported audio outputs are optical, stereo RCA or analog 7.1. With changes always being made to the technology, users have the option to upgrade the player's firmware. This can be done via the USB port that is built into the back of the machine, but it is recommended to do the upgrade via an internet connection with the Ethernet port. Either way, firmware upgradeability allows you to have the most up to date technology without having to spend the extra cash on a newer player.
FeaturesThe BD-P2550 offers users a variety of features that may not normally be found on competitors players. This player allows users the option to stream Netflix and Pandora media directly to their TV. The Netflix streaming allows you stream anything listed in the Netflix's Watch Now section, which includes HD content. The only downside to this feature is that the Standard Definition content is not available wide screen. While this is by no means a major flaw, it may be a frustration for those who have become accustomed to watching all their movies in widescreen format. There is currently a limited amount of Watch Now content available, but expect this feature to expand in the future as demand increases and more and more content is added. The Pandora streaming is the option allows users to stream free music to their TV. In order to utilize this feature you must already have a Pandora account. If you do, setup is really easy. Just enter your information via the easy to navigate menus and soon you will have access to all your accounts stations, and you can add new ones with the assistance of the player's onscreen keyboard. The BD-P2550 is also Profile 2.0 compliant. This feature allows the player to be able to access Internet enabled features that are offered on many movies current available for rent or purchase. In order to utilize this feature you will need to connect your player to the internet. This can easily be accomplished by connecting the built in Ethernet port to your home network since Wi-Fi is not available on this model. The player also comes equipped with 1GB of onboard memory. This feature eliminates the need to insert a memory stick into the player every time you want to view your movie's addition content. If for some reason 1GB of memory is not enough for your needs, you can add more via the port on the back. PerformanceThe BD-P2550 performs quite well for a Blu-ray player. The player has the ability to upconvert standard DVD's to 1080p which gives users the ability to enjoy their standard definition movies in a whole new format, while Blu-ray movies perform quite well also. The player also contains onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and Bit stream output for both formats. This technology allows users with older receivers to enjoy the performance of Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD audio either via their HDMI output or 7.1 analog outputs. SummaryIn conclusion, the Samsung BD-P2550 provides more than the average features you would expect to find in a Blu-ray player. With decent video quality and the ability to steam both Netflix and Pandora media, you are sure to find some way to be entertained with the BD-P2550 in your home. Pros
