Yamaha RX-V1900: Review
Yamaha's latest A/V receiver, the Yamaha RX-V1900, features 7 channel surround sound processing and superb HD audio and video realism. It features 130W of power across all 7 channels (910W total), and Dolby TrueHD and DTS surround processing. The unit has 4 HDMI inputs and is capable of upconverting all 4 to 1080p with 120Hz/24Hz refresh rates for wider display compatibility.

The receiver also features a host of legacy connection options, all of which can be upscaled to HD output. You can browse the contents of your iPod on the Yamaha front panel using the available optional iPod dock. The unit also features Bluetooth capability, HD Radio and XM and Sirius Satellite radio compatibility. The RX-V1900 includes multi-zone control for 2 additional zones.

Rating:  4.6 out of 5

Value

The RX-V1900 boasts features that are only available on much higher-priced models from the competition. It also produces sound and video quality at a much higher level than the similarly priced competition. With its comprehensive HD upconversion capability and support for most any format you're likely to need, it represents an excellent value for the price.

Ergonomics

This is one of the better looking A/V devices Yamaha has produced. It's sleek black cabinet, and minimum of exposed controls make it downright handsome. And the controls are well laid out, with the least used controls hidden behind a convenient trap door. The remotes (there's one full-featured and one with only a subset of the controls) and on-screen menus could honestly use a little work, but they're not unusable once you get used to them.

Summary

All-in-all, an excellent offering from Yamaha. The video processing is superior, and the audio has a lively, dynamic quality to it straight out of the box. The unit has features that others only include on much higher priced models, and the build quality is excellent.
