LG L227WTG-PF Review

Posted to Monitors 2009-04-25

Review: LG L227WTG-PF Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor

The LG L227WTG-PF Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor is a new 22-inch monitor from LG. The monitor uses TN TFT technology, which provides for less input lag than the some of the newer technologies in use, and features an anti-glare flat panel screen. The unit features 1680x1050 resolution, a 2ms response speed, a 1000:1 contrast ration and viewing angle of 170 degrees.

The monitor features 24-bit color support, sync rates of up to 75Hz vertical and 83KHz horizontal, and both DVI-D and VGA inputs. The unit features an aspect ratio of 16:10, supports HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection), and a brightness level of 300 cd/m2. User controls include brightness, contrast, horizontal position and vertical position.

Rating:  out of 5

Value

The L227WTG-PF represents a good value when compared to the cost of the competition. Most comparable monitors are priced a good bit higher. The older TN technology is an advantage if input lag could be a problem for you (gamers, video editing), and the colors are sharp and true. The anti-glare screen helps with horizontal light sources such as windows, and the 170-degree viewing angle is useful if someone else is looking at your pc at the same time as you.

Performance

The L227WTG-PF performs quite well, particularly when you consider its price. As mentioned, input lag is almost non-existent, and the monitor features a fast 2ms response time. After adjusting the brightness and contrast controls (the colors are a bit washed out at the default settings), the unit produces excellent colors and images without pixelization. Viewing under all lighting conditions is better than average. The screen can be tilted vertically and easily rotates 360 degrees horizontally.

Summary

If you're in the market for a large widescreen monitor, put the LG on your list of monitors to take a look at. Don't rely on reviews to make this choice though - choosing a monitor is best done in a computer store. You'll likely be surprised at the performance of the L227WTGPF when compared to its higher priced competition. And the expansive 1680x1050 resolution provides a lot of useful screen real estate.
