Polk Audio RM705: Review
If you have always struggled with trying to find the perfect matching speaker system for your home theater setup, and you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, then you may want to check out the Polk Audio RM705
surround sound system. Unlike your average home theater in a box, the Polk Audio RM705 offers you a quality set of speakers that can work well with nearly any form of home theater hardware that may strike your fancy. While they are small enough to fit into nearly any décor, they are still powerful enough to provide the high quality sound that you may have come to expect from only the higher end speaker systems.

While most systems require you to buy their speakers separately, the Polk Audio RM705 provides users with 4 RM7 Satellite speakers, 1 RM7C Center Channel, and a powered subwoofer. The fronts and surrounds measure 6-1/8 x 3-4/5 x 3-3/4 inch and are composed of one 2-1/2 inch Midrange, a 1/2 inch tweeter and a dynamic balance composite cone driver. The center speaker measures 3-4/5 x 9-7/16 x 3-3/4 inch and provides a 2-1/2 inch midrange, a 1/2 inch tweeter and a dynamic balance composite cone driver. The subwoofer is an 8 inch with a dynamic balance composite cone driver and measures 13-7/8 x 12-1/2 x 12-1/2 inch . The speakers provide an overall frequency response between 40 Hz and 22 kHz with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. The recommended amplifier for this setup should provide a power per channel that ranges between 20 and 100 watts.

Features

While most manufacturers market their speakers by the type of cabinet, Polk as taken a different approach with a uniquely designed enclosure. While most speakers are square, those in the Polk Audio RM705 setup are designed using a unique Reuleaux Triangular Polygon shape. This design was meant for more than just looks. This shape is quite strong and provides a higher level of acoustic quality which is designed to minimize resonances and standing waves inside the speaker. This helps to eliminate the muddiness that its similarly sized competitors can provide. This allows you to enjoy high quality sound that won't break the bank.

The Polk Audio RM705 also offers users something different when it comes to delivering high quality sound. Equipped with a wide-dispersion driver array, it gives the speaker the ability to project the sound both out and around, allowing you to experience lifelike sound. Even when placed near the sides of your TV, the Polk Audio RM705 can deliver big speaker sound in a much smaller footprint.

Unlike its competitors who tend to consider installation an afterthought, the Polk Audio RM705 setup offers you something different. With the ability to mount them on stands or even on the wall, you can pretty much place these speakers wherever you like. At only 3 lbs a speaker they can be placed nearly anywhere so they can be heard and not seen.

Performance

Unlike other box speaker setups, the Polk Audio RM705 performs quite well. Sound is crystal clear and the subwoofer provides the powerful, thumping bass that could once only be found in the higher priced, stand alone, subwoofers.

As for the speakers themselves, they cannot and should not be compared to those that can be found in the home theater in a box system. While most associate small with less power, these speakers deliver the quality sound you are looking for in your home theater without breaking the bank.

Summary

In conclusion, if you are looking for a high quality matching home theater speaker setup that won't break the bank, then you may be impressed with what the Polk Audio RM705 has to offer. With quality sound and bass performance this system gives even those setups that cost two to three times as much a run for their money. If you are looking for a quality setup at a price you can afford, then the Polk Audio RM705 may be the way to go.
