Sony DCR-SR67: Review
Sony DCR-SR67 review:

The Sony DCR-SR67 features an 80 gigabyte hard disk drive built-in for storage of recorded video and images. The SR67 is a compact handycam that is capable of recording in standard definition 480p format and despite being the midrange option in Sony's 2009 handycam range, is capable of recording audio in Dolby 5.1 surround sound via its built in zoom microphone.

The handycam has a 2.7 inch touch screen LCD with an 60x optical and 2000x digital zoom. With the addition of a touch screen interface the DCR-SR67 shows that Sony is willing to integrate advancements in technology into their handycam equipment. The 80gb hard disk drive can hold over 80 hours of recorded video and comes with Sony's Super SteadyShot image stabilization technology for quality image capture. There is a memory stick duo slot for those requiring additional storage capacity and the camera can also be directly connected to a VRD-P1 DVD (or similar) burner for recording on the go.

Rating:  3.6 out of 5

Performance

If you expect performance from the Sony SR67 than there is nothing here that will disappoint. With 60x optical zoom and 2000x digital zoom, getting the right shot is never a problem. Sound recording is more than catered for with a built in zoom Mic that records in 5.1 surround sound, performance that a professional videographer would be satisfied with. The 2.7 inch touch screen LCD panel gives a responsive interface for quick selection of menu options and the face index function that is used during recording allows added performance during all types of video and image recording.

Ergonomics

Handycams with in built hard disk drive are still relatively bulky compared to their media card cousins and the DCR-SR67 measures in with a width of 2 3/4in with a weight of 10oz, meaning there is still a gap between the ergonomically and less weighty media card versions. With hard disk drive technology always on the move, expect further versions to continually come in at smaller measurements, making them a more attractive purchase. The DCR-SR67 features a user friendly menu that is accessible via touchscreen and turns on when the LCD display is opened, meaning your camera is always ready to perform.

Summary

Buying Sony gives you the added benefit of a quality manufacturer that you can be assured of finding support with and you'll be swamped with the availability of accessories that are also produced. The DCR-SR67 provides enough storage space on its internal hard disk drive to get any job done, though the purchase of an additional battery is definitely recommended to ensure you don't miss a minute.

Pros

  • 80gb hard disk drive
  • 60x optical zoom
  • Built in Dolby 5.1 surround sound zoom microphone

Cons

  • Slightly Bulky due to hard disk drive
  • Extra battery recommended
