Klipsch KSW-12 Review

Posted to Speakers 2009-08-18

The Klipsch KSW-12 subwoofer began production in 1998 and was part of the Synergy series of woofer the company produced. It continued until its production was ceased by Klipsch, but is still available through a number of retailers both online and in traditional retail channels. The KSW12 provides high quality bass audio in the 12inch subwoofer range, however, attracts some criticism due to its lack of visual appeal.

The KSW-12 gives a maximum ground shaking output of 113db for all your bass needs. Combined with its down firing driver which pumps your bass out through the floor and out to the room, you are sure to hear, and feel, the performance of this woofer. Enclosed in a black matte MDF casing, the KSW-12 has 105 watts of continuous power available to your amplifier to ensure your sound will always be of the highest quality. The speaker is available in two versions, a 110 volt or 230 volt option.

Value

Whilst the KSW-12 has been discontinued by Klipsch directly, the value that consumers have seen in this subwoofer is evident given its continued availability with third party suppliers. Unlike other products in this range, this subwoofer accepts Low Frequency Effects (LFE), line level and speaker level inputs to ensure all your bass requirements are covered. The value that is included surpasses other offerings in this category and is backed by a trusted speaker manufacturer. The KSW-12 is packed with value and is a brilliant performer to be added to your home theater setup.

Ergonomics

It appears that the design thought that has gone into the KSW-12 was somewhat lacking, given that it resembles a large black box that could substitute as a foot stool. Only available in a jet black veneer finish, there is a lack of a wood finish option for those customers looking to match there home theater to their interior design needs. Similar products in the Klipsch range appear to have more sleek designs options, but lack the value provided by the KSW-12.

Summary

Back on track, value for money is paramount when considering your home theater setup and the Klipsch KSW-12 delivers. The performance available from the woofer is brilliant value for this range of speaker, so providing you can locate one at your local retailer or preferred online store, it is a recommended addition to your theater setup. Just have a nice corner in mind for it to be out of peoples eyeshot.

Pros

  • Brilliant performer
  • Lack of thought in design
  • Becoming harder to find
  • Trusted manufacturer

Cons

  • No choice of color
