Nikon Coolpix S570 review:

The Nikon Coolpix S570 is a pocket sized digital camera that has a combined 12x zoom available to it, giving you the chance to take the shot you need at most distances. As with most compact cameras you may lose some quality when zooming digitally, but the Coolpix S570 has the benefit of the 5x Wide-angle Zoom-NIKKOR Glass Lens giving an increased view of the landscape around the subject you is shooting.

Image stabilization has become a handy addition to most portable digital cameras and its implementation has made the way into the Coolpix S570. A 4 way system is used to help this, with firstly the Electronic VR Image stabilization helping to minimize any movements of the user. Motion detection technology in the camera gives the shot a more steady appeal and with the facility for images up to high ISO 3200, shots are improved in low light and when dealing with moving images.

Features

Nikon have chosen to include a 2.7 inch bright LCD screen for the camera so your previewed images should be clear and crisp, allowing for easier review on the fly. The Best Shot Selector (BSS) system can also be used to take up to 10 shots at the same time, automatically choosing the one that is most in focus. Image resolution is available up to 12.0 megapixels which generally allows a maximum photo size of 16 x 20 inches. The Coolpix S570 can also record movies at a 640 x 480 resolution at 30 fps.

Performance

Portrait photo quality of the S570 is improved significantly by the Smart Portrait system that has 5 different functions to help improve the overall look of subject photos. Skin softening gives smoother tones to skin at three different levels, whilst the smile timer helps to ensure you capture the right shot all the time. Blink proof functions help to take two shots in order to avoid having to redo the whole shoot and the face priority auto finder (AF) system lets the camera automatically find the subjects and focus on up to 12 faces, increasing the overall shot quality.

Summary

The inclusion of the 5x wide angle lens does help put the S570 Coolpix ahead of other compact digital cameras. It means that its application is no longer limited to those random party shots that are the domain of other models, giving you the option to take good quality photos outdoors. If you have a limited budget and are looking for a solid performing digital camera, this will do the job.
