Pentax K-x: Review
Pentax K-X review:

If you're ready to upgrade or go digital, consider the Pentax K-x Digital SLR, which provides maximum picture quality at a competitive price. It is designed to adapt to virtually any shooting situation, making it a great buy for hobbyists, amateur photographers, and families with a lot of memories to capture. Not only is it versatile enough to shoot perfect pictures, but it can also capture 720p high-definition video. Although it is roughly average in price compared to other digital SLRs, the Pentax K-X is a unique camera that leaves an impression in the world of photography.

This model measures 4.8 x 3.6 x 2.7 and weighs 1.3 pounds, which is around average size and weight. There are other digital SLRs with higher resolutions and more picture enhancements, but this one stands out because it is sturdy, simple, and easy to use. The Pentax K-X is a 12.4-megapixel camera that features a 3x optical zoom, with the included Pentax 18 - 55mm lens, which is great for any picture-taking experience. This digital SLR doesn't have as many fancy features as other models, so if you prefer something less-sophisticated, then this is the camera for you.

Rating:  3.8 out of 5

Value

This camera is a good value, but when comparing the features to similar digital SLRs; it doesn't quite beat out the competition. Simplicity is a better way to describe this model. If you don't need the fancier options, and you want high-quality, high-performance pictures and video, then this is the camera for you. But if you are like many consumers who believe that the more features the better, then this may not be the one to look at. Needless to say, this camera is very well-equipped, but not as power-packed as others.

Features

The majority of enhancements on this camera are automatically applied, which is great for people who dislike manually adjusting picture settings. The Pentax K-X features a 2.7" LCD monitor for quick viewing, and an 18-55mm f/3.4-5/6 PENTAX DA lens for the best shooting. There are several automatic picture modes, in addition to the built-in features like Sensor-shift Shake Reduction technology and HDR Image Capture technology. This model also features a built-in P-TTL dedicated flash, which can work wonders in any poorly-lit situation.

Summary

Simply put, there are a lot of new and upcoming digital SLRs, especially on the consumer-level market. Many of these entry-level models boast similar features to the more expensive cameras, and this is true. Although the Pentax K-X has very impressive features, it cuts down on the number of features and focuses on quality and performance. If you are looking for a sturdy, reliable digital SLR, then by all means consider this one.

Pros

  • Digital SLR with 12.4-megapixel sensor
  • Sturdy, compact camera with reliable performance
  • Shoots pictures in 4288 x 2428 resolution, video in 720p high-definition
  • Great entry-level D-SLR in a crowded digital camera market
