Bose Acoustimass 6: Review

Bose Acoustimass 6: Review
If you're looking for a discrete speaker set to pair with your 5.1 channel sound system, then consider the black (also available in white) Bose Acoustimass 6 Home Entertainment Speaker System. Although this model would not be suitable for your large entertainment room, it is perfect for smaller settings such as a bedroom. It features five single cube speakers, plus a powered Acoustimass module with a single performance driver. The downside to having small speakers is a lower audio quality, so you may want to consider a more expensive speaker system for the prime experience.

The Acoustimass 6 Series III system is compact and lightweight so that speakers may be placed virtually anywhere. Each of the five "virtually invisible" cube speakers measures 3 x 3 x 4 inch and weighs approximately 1.2 lbs. The Acoustimass module is significantly larger, and it measures 16.3 x 8.1 x 22.3 inch and weighs 27 lbs. The audio performance is somewhat disappointing when comparing the product and its price to competing models, but overall, it is a great entry-level speaker set that is perfect for the unsophisticated bedroom or den.

Rating:  3.0 out of 5

Performance

The hype surrounding the Bose Acoustimass speakers seems to be focusing on the new audio technology, as well as the "virtually invisible" cube speakers. Consumers are cautioned to investigate other models before finalizing their decision, as several users have complained of poor mid and bass audio quality with these speakers. If you're not a picky listener, then this home entertainment speaker system will surprise you and simulate the home theater experience well.

Ergonomics

Because each of the five cube speakers is a mere 3" square, you can place them virtually anywhere. The only annoyance is the running speaker wires, but an optional SL2 wireless surround link system is available to eliminate the issue. The Acoustimass module is significantly more noticeable, but it can easily be disguised behind some drapes or furniture. The overall speaker setup is fairly quick and simple, and the "virtually invisible" speakers fit great in any small or mid-sized bedroom or entertainment room.

Summary

Although the Bose Acoustimass 6 Home Entertainment Speaker System is slightly overpriced when considering the audio quality and performance, it is a great entry-level speaker system for the consumer who isn't too concerned with the perfection of specific sound frequencies. The five "virtually invisible" cube speakers are a great fit for your entertainment room, and the 5.1 channel experience is a big improvement over predecessor systems. If you are especially concerned with performance and quality, you may want to shop around before deciding upon the Bose Acoustimass 6 system.

Pros

  • Specifically designed for 5.1-channel audio systems
  • Great entry-level speaker system for consumers who love Bose
  • Acoustimass technology provides powerful sound
  • Five

Cons

  • Sadly, the price seems to exceed the audio quality and performance
