ValueThe Sony A380 DSLR sits on the upper end of the entry-level DSLR class, and is priced very reasonably when you consider the specs. The 14.2 megapixel sensor, coupled with the excellent included kit lens, make this camera a good value at its current street price. It has most of the same features as the competition in this class, but is priced a little lower. The eye-start autofocus is a Sony exclusive in this class and the in-camera image stabilization can help save you money on accessory lenses. PerformanceThe Sony Alpha 380 delivers excellent performance for an entry-level DSLR. Image quality is excellent throughout the zoom range, and the high-resolution allows for a lot of creativity when cropping and editing photos. Large prints are not a problem, given the resolution and optical quality of the included lens. Autofocus is fast, smooth and positive, and the optical viewfinder is an excellent one, although a little on the small size. The in-camera image stabilization works well, as does the dust prevention technology. SummaryIf you're in the market for an entry-level DSLR that's a cut above the average, the Sony Alpha 380 makes an excellent choice. The high resolution sensor, excellent optics of the included kit lens, and in-camera image stabilization add up to a good value when compared to the competition. All in all a very good offering from Sony. Pros
