Acer X193WB: Review
Acer X193WB : Review

The Acer X193WB  is a 19inch monitor that is capable of performing most of your daily computer tasks, however, does lack the beefy response time of newer 2ms response time models. The X193WB comes with a 5ms response time which is suitable for most fast moving images, but if you are gamer looking for a new display that will give the fastest possible picture response, then you may need to look elsewhere.

With a 160 degree viewing angle and a 1440x900 native resolution, the X193WB possesses all the features you would need for a day to day monitor. If you are not concerned about the fastest possible response time available, then there is a lot more to like about this monitor. A 2000:1 contrast ratio means you your image quality will be satisfactory in most tasks, though your video playback may lack the color crispness available in higher end models.

Rating:  2.6 out of 5

Features

The lack of DVI input is really where the X193WB falls down. LCD monitors have come along quite well in the last 5 years to a point where both VGA and DVI inputs are expected standard. The exclusion of it in this model means that it is catered to a very specific market. DVI means faster picture display via digital transmission, so even the 5ms response time is overshadowed by the analog only option on the X193WB. This is a perfect monitor for a first time computer user looking for a larger widescreen display, or ideal for an office environment, but its usefulness for meatier computer tasks is minimal.

Ergonomics

A slim design is probably not enough to warrant purchasing the X193WB over other, better performers in the 19inch widescreen category. Still, there is a lot to like about the way Acer designs simple displays with aspects that are pleasing to the eye. The stand provides minimal intrusion into the desktop setup, meaning there is less to detract from the sleek look to the display. There is also the option of wall mounting the X193WB if required, further adding to its visual appeal.

Summary

No surprises out of the box in terms of performance the slim design and 3 year limited warranty help make the X193WB an attractive monitor for everyday use, but the lack of DVI connection means there is definitely better performance to be found elsewhere. It is easy to see 19inch models of this variety being slowly phased out as LCD technology continues to evolve, but for now, the X193WB performs what it is designed to do.

Pros

  • Entry level monitor
  • 5ms Response time
  • Slim design

Cons

  • Lack of DVI input
  • Not suitable for high performance needs
