Polk Audio PSW110: Review
The Polk Audio PSW110 is a 10 inch powered subwoofer designed for use in surround systems. It features 150W power handling (60W continuous), a single 10-inch subwoofer with compression circuitry designed to limit distortion at room-shaking volume levels and laser-based Klippel measurement technology which improves linearity and provides a deep, precise sound.

The unit measures 14.2 x 14.5 x 17 inches and weighs 34 pounds. It has a frequency response of 35Hz - 250Hz. The subwoofer uses a floor coupled downward firing port, features multiple hookup options (LFE, line and speaker level inputs) and intelligent amplifiers. The 10" woofer is made of composite material for better performance and long life. The unit also features sturdy feet, which keep the unit from sliding across the floor at high volume levels.

Rating:  3.8 out of 5

Value

The price of the PSW110 is quite reasonable for a medium-priced subwoofer when compared to the competition. Build quality is excellent, and the composite construction of the woofer cone should prevent any chance of blowout as long as you don't abuse the unit. The cabinet is well-built, and the sturdy feet are missing from some of the competition. The intelligent amplifier helps save power at lower listening levels, and the Klippel technology ensures that the unit delivers very accurate bass.

Performance

The PSW110 delivers excellent performance, with little distortion even at high volume levels. The composite woofer, downward firing port, Klippel technology and sturdy cabinet construction all add up to a speaker that can deliver realistic bass at all volume levels. The PSW110 is very efficient if you decide to drive it with your surround receiver, and the frequency response covers the most useful range for a subwoofer. Performance overall is better than the comparably priced competition.

Summary

If you're building a medium-priced home theater system, the PSW110 definitely deserves a look as a candidate for your subwoofer. It delivers clean bass at all volume levels at a reasonable price. It's suitable for any room size you're likely to have in a home situation, and relatively compact, so placement shouldn't be a problem. All in all an excellent offering from Polk Audio.
