Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED: Review
Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f3.5-4.5G ED review:

The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f3.5-4.5G ED is an internal focus lens for your digital camera, which eliminates any extension in lens barrel for easier operation. The lens is a wide angle zoom lens which makes it perfect for wider shots involving landscapes or cityscape, though it has a close focusing range of approximately 0.8 feet to provide some added versatility.

As the model name suggest, the lens is optimized for use with Nikon DX-format digital cameras giving picturing render at angles from 109 degrees through to 61 degrees. This is equal to focal lengths of 15-36mm in regular FX or 35mm formats. The Silent Wave Motor (SWM) provides quiet operation of the lens so as not to detract from the shot you are taking and the Manual/Auto Focus switch is conveniently located giving the flexibility that is often needed when taking photos on the fly.

Rating:  3.8 out of 5

Features

This Nikon wide angle zoom lens weighs approximately 16.2ounces. It has distance information features so you can tell where you are in terms of focusing range and a focal length range of 10-24mm. It measures at 3.25 inch x 3.42 inch (Diameter x Length) so it will add some extra length to your existing digital camera. Lens caps are included to help protect the longevity of your lens when it is not in use on your camera and there is also a CL-1118 Nikon soft lens case for storage.

Performance

Ultimate performance from the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f3.5-4.5G ED lens is found by combining the lens with the compatible Nikon DX-format digital camera. Three aspherical lens elements are included in the design to allow the lens to help eliminate lens aberrations. The Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) gives enhanced light transmission, while also helping to cut down on any flares that may occur in your shots. A rounded 7 blade diaphragm gives your photos a more natural appearance for any out of focus image elements, meaning the lens will actually help correct any shooting errors that may occur.

Summary

As long as you have a suitable Nikon DX-Format digital camera, this lens should give you greater performance for your dollar. There is off brand choices from other lens manufacturers, so it could be worthwhile shopping around before deciding to go with this lens. However, this lens has many features to like if you own a Nikon DX and want to stay with the Nikon name.

Pros

  • 10-24mm focal length
  • Optimized for Nikon DX-format
  • Internal Focus
  • Easy to reach manual/auto switch
