Value

Given its specs, the TX-SR607 is surprisingly affordable. It offers more features than most of the competition at this price point, and includes the very latest in HD technology. It has all the I/O you could possibly need, and the performance specs are impressive. The build quality is excellent, as is usual with Onkyo components. And the unit features Onkyo's RI (Remote Interactive) technology, which allows you to control all of your Onkyo components with one remote.

Features

The TX-SR607 is jam-packed with features. It has support for all the latest formats, more HDMI I/O than most of the competition and plenty of support for legacy audio devices. With the proper speakers, the unit can produce a true 3D sound experience, and there's enough power available for driving all the channels. And it includes HD upscaling of existing analog formats, so you can enjoy your favorite DVDs in HD format. When compared to the competition in this price range, the overall feature set is well above average.

Summary

Whether you've decided to make the leap to all digital, or plan to keep some of your analog components for a while, the Onkyo TX-SR607 makes an excellent choice for the foundation of a 7.2 channel surround home theater system. Support for legacy components is excellent, yet the unit has as much digital support as you could want. If you're building a mid-range home theater system, the TX-SR607 definitely deserves to be on your short list.
