Canon PIXMA iP3600 Photo Printer: Review

Through the use of Canon's picolitre inkjet formations, the Canon PIXMA iP3600 can achieve a 9600 x 2400 DPI resolution, giving you crisp colors and clean prints every time. This technology effectively means that the printer ejects microscopic drops of ink onto the paper, allowing for a smoother outlay of color, helping to eliminate any grainy appearance that images may have.

The PIXMA IP3600 is capable of printing at 17 pages per minute (ppm) color and 26ppm in black. These high quality prints are made available from the FINE print head technology that Canon has developed, allowing the heads that place the images upon the paper to operate more effectively, reducing the overall time needed to outlay the images and text onto paper. PictBridge technology is also included, giving the added flexibility for you to plug in your PictBridge compatible digital camera via cable and print directly.

Performance

For those of us that are conscious about the ways in which are printers use ink to get things out onto paper, the PIXMA iP3600 helps out. With individual ink tanks, there is no need to purchase a full cartridge should one run out. Combine the IP3600 with some specialist photo printing paper and there are some really outstanding results to be had from this mid range photo printer. USB 2.0 connection gives good compatibility for the unit for both PC and MAC users.

Ergonomics

Available in a glossy black, the design of the PIXMA is sleek and eye catching, making it the perfect printer for a home computer station that is looking to stand apart. The PictBridge connection is easily designed for ready access, meaning that should you wish to place the printer in a more easy to access location for anyone in the family to use (and not necessarily right beside the computer) then you can still print from the unit. Its size should not be a problem to fit in, measuring at 17' (w), 11.7' (d) and 6.0' (h).

Summary

Having seen the other options that Canon has available for the home market, there is not much to distinguish the Canon PIXMA IP3600 overall from other models. Whilst the 17ppm printing in color does have its advantages for those of us looking at printing at large amount of photos, the other features of the unit make it a fairly standard offering.
