Canon PIXMA MX860 Wireless Office All-In-One : Review

The Canon PIXMA MX860 Wireless Office All-In-One combines intelligent use of wireless connectivity with the capabilities of a multifunction centre. This all-in-one unit is designed for use within a home office and is able to print, fax, copy and scan, whilst also providing an additional memory card slot for those photos that need to be printed on the fly.

Printing speed of the Canon PIXMA MX860 is fairly standard with approximately 8.4 ipm in black, Color graphics at approx. 5.6 ipm and 6x4 Standard borderless photo's at approx. 41 secs. With the unit not expanded for scanning or printing functions it measures at 491(mm)x437(mm)x226(mm) for width, depth and height, so it will require a bit of desk space. There is a 2.5inch LCD read out for notifications while in use and separate ink tanks for each color are also used for easy replacement.

For a multifunction centre aimed solely at the home office user, the PIXMA MX860 presents an additional value for money benefit. The CIS scanner that is used within the unit provides a maximum 2400 x 4800 DPI resolution which is more then adequate for a regular home user and will also produce good quality scans for any small business. Networking scanning means that the MX860 can scan your images onto your local network, value that is not often found in other multifunction units.

Features

The MX860 gives you copying functionality that can do reductions or enlargements from 25% to 400% and copy color at roughly 3ipm. Fax functionality is provided by the internal modem that is equivalent to a stand-alone machine and can hold up to 250 pages in fax memory. The A4 document feeder can hold up to 35 sheets of paper and with power consumption also a consideration for most home users, this unit consumes a max of 21watts while copying and as low as 5.5w in standby mode.

Summary

Though the Canon PIXMA MX860 is a capable multifunction centre for the home office, its usage for color photography is limited, with some pictures appearing grainy unless ramped up to its highest resolution, which will effectively run your ink dry very quickly. Its other functions make it a great value for money purchase.
