Sony DVP-FX930/R: Review

The Sony DVP-FX930/R is a portable DVD player with a 9 inch, 800 x 480 widescreen display. The unit is quite compact, measuring 6.5 x 8.9 x 1.8 inches and lightweight at only 2 pounds. The unit features a 6-hour rechargeable battery, 180-degree swivel screen and multiple format disc support. You can use the unit to view photos and images as well as listen to music.

Other features include touch buttons on the bezel for easy operation, dual remote control sensors so that the remote control can be used from a variety of angles and two built in headphone jacks. The DVP-FX930/R has an A/V output, and when plugged into your TV can be used as a conventional DVD player. The unit includes a 12VDC car adapter. Other features include disc resume, which allows you to boot up a DVD where you left off and a 12-bit/108MHz video DAC.

Features

The DVP-FX930 has all the features you're likely to need in a portable DVD player. The high-resolution widescreen display provides a good viewing experience as long as you're fairly close to the unit, and the dual headphone jacks make sharing your movies easy. The resume function is an added bonus, as is the A/V output for using the DVP-FX930/R as a conventional player. And multiple format support means that you can do more with this unit than just watch movies.

Performance

The DVP-FX930 provides very good performance. The images are smooth and flicker free, even in fast action scenes. The display is bright enough to easily use in a car with bright sunlight outside, and the audio quality is excellent. It is just as useful for watching DVDs as for listening to CDs. The 180 degree swivel display makes adjusting the display for proper viewing an effortless task, and the widescreen format provides a theater like viewing experience.

Summary

If you're in the market for a portable DVD player that's versatile and compact, the DVP-FX930 makes a very good choice.
