Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX1: Review
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX1 review:

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX1 is a new 10.2 megapixel compact point-and-shoot camera from Sony that incorporates their new EXMOR CMOS sensor for outstanding low-light images. It features a 4 times optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization and a large 3.0 inch color LCD display. Other features include an HD 720p movie mode, handheld twilight mode and a sweep panorama mode.

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX1 also includes continuous shooting at up to 10 frames per second (fps) at full resolution, touch screen display control and ISOs ranging up to 3200. There's an intelligent auto mode, an intelligent scene recognition mode and macro focus down to ½ inch. The camera also has face detection, smile detection and motion detection, which detects motion in the subject and adjusts ISO and shutter speed to prevent blurring. The camera also incorporates an Easy Shooting Mode, which makes it easy for even beginners to take great photos.

Rating:  4.0 out of 5

Performance

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX1 delivers excellent performance. Low-light operation is outstanding, with the new CMOS image sensor allowing images to be taken in 50% less light than a traditional sensor, with much less noise in the image. The high-sensitivity of the sensor translates into a very fast camera as well, with best in class 10 fps full resolution continuous shooting. The camera takes an excellent image on full auto, and the Easy Shooting Mode is great for beginners to digital photography.

Ergonomics

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX1 gets excellent marks for style and usability as well. Its sleek stainless steel body is just a bit over 2 inches thick, and the camera easily fits in a pocket or purse. The LCD touchscreen and menu system are very user-friendly. Due to its fast sensor, the camera is much less prone to blurred images than the norm, and taking quality images has never been easier. In addition, the camera weighs only 4.2 ounces. The camera does well on full auto, yet allows some creative control with better than average manual control.

Summary

If you're in the market for a compact point-and-shoot digital camera, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX1 definitely deserves to be on your short list, if it's within your budget. It's a bit pricey, but performance is best in class. Low-light operation is better than any other compact point-and-shoot and there's very little graininess due to noise reduction. All in all an excellent offering from Sony.
