Kodak EasyShare Z1015 IS: Review
Kodak EasyShare Z1015 IS review:

The Kodak EasyShare Z1015 IS is a 10 megapixel 15 times optical zoom digital camera. It falls squarely in the compact super zoom category of digital cameras. The 15 times optical zoom lens provides a 35mm equivalent focal length of 28 - 420mm. The camera also features optical image stabilization, a fast maximum aperture range of f/2.8 (at 28mm) and HD video and still capture.

Other features of the EasyShare Z1015 IS include an innovative Smart Capture feature which analyzes the scene completely and chooses the best settings, SD / SDHC memory card storage and a fast 0.22 second picture capture time. The camera features an ISO range from 80-3200, a large 3.0 inch LCD display and a built-in electronic viewfinder. There are 15 scene modes, 5 color modes and 4 exposure modes including manual. Manual exposure compensation of +/- 2 EV is available.

Rating:  3.8 out of 5

Value

The EasyShare Z1015 IS makes a very good value at its street price for a compact digital superzoom camera. The camera is capable of producing quality images on full auto, yet allows more creative control than some other point-and-shoot digital cameras. The electronic viewfinder is excellent for composing scenes in bright sunlight, and good enough for full-time use if you prefer a viewfinder. The SLR-like styling is sleek, and although this is not a pocket or purse camera, it is surprisingly easy to carry.

Features

The Kodak EasyShare Z1015 IS is strong on features. In addition to those mentioned above, the camera features a built-in pop-up flash with red-eye reduction, face detection technology, a histogram feature and 5 white balance modes. About the only complaint is there's no manual shutter speed selection or custom white balance control. Also, an optional dock is required to view HD movies and photos on your HDTV - most of the competition comes with an HDMI output port built into the camera.

Summary

If you're ready to take a step up from a point-and-shoot digital camera, but not quite ready for a digital SLR, the Kodak EasyShare Z1015 IS makes a very good choice in an SLR type camera. It does well on full auto, yet allows more creative control if you're inclined to go there. All in all a very good offering from Kodak.
