A great ultraportable notebook that offers consumers a balance of features, performance, and convenience is the 13.3" Apple MacBook Pro MB991LL/A. This sleek laptop features an aluminum unibody chassis that measures 12.8" x 1" x 8.9" and weighs a comfortable 4.5 lbs. It is perfect for the on-the-go traveler or college student. The battery life reaches up to 7 hours; however, this notebook is prone to running hot with extended use. If you are looking for that "middle range" Mac, then consider this Apple MacBook Pro. It is safe to say that this particular model is probably Apple's most full-featured lightweight notebook. The aluminum unibody provides a sturdy platform in which all the components are strategically arranged, such as the powerful 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor. The processor isn't the only powerhouse in this MacBook- discrete NVIDIA graphics offer impressive performance as well. The 13.3" widescreen LED display is very reflective (as in all MacBooks), which is both annoying and enlightening to the multimedia experience. But with a price near that of some Windows laptops, the Apple MacBook Pro MB991LL/A is a win-win for ultraportable notebooks all around.
FeaturesThis model is loaded with features that notebook fans absolutely love, such as Bluetooth and superior 802.11a/b/g/n wireless. Despite this laptop being thinner and more ergonomic than previous series, everything is neatly packed so that there is no loss in functionality and features. Users will be pleased to find that Apple included a slot-loading DL DVD±RW/CD-RW in this model, which is a plus over the MacBook Air. Additionally, there are two USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 800, one gigabit Ethernet port, a SD card slot, and the unique MiniDisplay port (for using with external displays). As standard with MacBooks, there is a built-in iSight webcam. For storage, there is a 250GB hard drive. For memory, there is 4GB pre-installed (upgradeable to 8GB) and 256MB shared video memory. Overall, the features are great, although a fingerprint reader or PCMCIA slot would've been a nice touch. PerformancePerformance-wise, the Apple MacBook Pro MB991LL/A operates tasks very efficiently, allowing up to 7 hours of operation time (according to the manufacturer) thanks to advanced battery technology. Common complaints are that the processor performance and battery life aren't as impressive as Apple claims, but the overall experience differs for each user. It is well-known that MacBooks run hot, so you may want to invest in a cooling pad if you plan on long-time use. Wireless performance is excellent, so if you're constantly on-the-go, this notebook is for you. Keep in mind the power cord is a little short, though. SummaryThis ultraportable is a great balance of both features and functionality for a fairly reasonable price (when considering other Macs). The ergonomics generally please the consumer as intended, especially the state-of-the-art trackpad and unibody aluminum chassis. While it is not the best Apple computer out there, the Apple MacBook Pro MB991LL/A is perhaps the most full-featured lightweight Apple notebook available on the market today. Pros
