Bushnell Elite e2 8x42: Review
Bushnell Elite E2 Review:

The Bushnell Elite e2 8x42 binoculars represent an excellent value in the medium-to-high range for optics. A host of features and impressive performance make for a good combination. These 8x42 (magnification x objective lens diameter) binoculars have a 330-foot field of view at 1000 yards, and can focus down to 8 feet. They feature twist-up eyecups for extended eye relief and are rugged yet lightweight (only 25.7 ounces).

Additional features include Advanced Fusion Hybrid technology for excellent edge-to-edge clarity and contrast, 99.7% light transmission due to XTR lens coatings, and Rainguard protection, which reduces the size of water droplets on the lenses. The Elite E2s are also waterproof, dustproof, and fogproof. They are built on a magnesium chassis and covered with rubber armor. They also feature locking center focus and diopter dials. They come complete with a custom molded carry case, tethered lens covers, and a quick-connect neck strap.

Rating:  4.0 out of 5

Value

The features and performance of these binoculars make them an excellent overall value. The same features in a pair of Nikon or Swarovski binoculars could cost up to twice as much as the price of the Elite E2s. The combination of waterproof, dustproof, fogproof and Rainguard alone make these units worth the price, especially when you consider the excellent performance. And the price includes Bushnell quality and reliability as well. The Elite E2 definitely deserves a look if you are in the market for mid-to-high priced binoculars.

Features

The features packed into this pair of binoculars are what set it apart from the crowd. The same features in some other brands such as Nikon cost considerably more. Waterproof, dustproof and fogproof have already been mentioned. Rainguard is a Bushnell exclusive and really does work to reduce the effect of raindrops on the lens. The locking center focus and diopter dials add to the good overall ergonomics, and the rubber armor coating provides a secure and comfortable grip.

Summary

When you consider price versus features and performance, it's hard to come up with a better combination in a high-end pair of binoculars. Bushnell has expanded the highly successful Elite series with this new addition, and they've incorporated a lot of the Elite's features into a lower-priced package.
