The Canon PIXMA MP270 Photo All-In-One Printer is a new all-in-one inkjet photo/document printer, copier and scanner. It features a maximum print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, a minimum ink droplet size of 2pL and a print speed of 8.4 ipm black and 4.8 ipm color (ipm is a new print speed measurement - it is equal to the number of 4 page Excel, Word and PDF documents which can be printed in 1 minute). The PIXMA MP270 also features a color copying speed as fast as 37 seconds, 4" x 6" borderless color photo printing in as little as 45 seconds and an optical scan resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi. Other features include a two cartridge ink system (1 black, 1 color), Auto Photo Fix II photo enhancement and borderless printing of photos up to 8-1/2" x 11". The printer has a USB 2.0 connection and is PictBridge compatible, for printing photos directly from your PictBridge enabled phone or digital camera.
ValueThe PIXMA MP270 represents an average value in an all-in-one inkjet printer. At its street price, some of the competition offer wired and/or wireless network printing. Another missing feature that is found on some of the competition is a multimedia card reader, for printing directly from memory cards. That being said, the Canon does beat most of the competition in print speed, and the two-cartridge ink system should help save on disposables. In addition, the photo print quality is excellent at this price point. PerformanceThe PIXMA MP270 is fast in all categories - print speed, scan and copy speed are all better than most of the competition at this price. Photo quality is as good as it gets - this is in large part due to Canon's excellent color ink cartridge technology. The Auto Photo Fix II feature works surprisingly well, and document text is laser quality. Both print and scan hardware resolution are excellent as well. SummaryIf you're in the market for a home or light office use all-in-one, the Canon PIXMA MP270 makes a very good choice. You can pay less for the same features, or get more features at the same price, but you won't get the same speed or resolution. In addition, you get Canon quality, which is better than average for inkjet printers. All in all a very good offering from Canon that is priced just a bit on the high side. Pros
