The Canon PIXMA MX340 4204B019 is a new wireless all-in-one inkjet printer from Canon. Aimed squarely at the small office/home office market, this new printer features WiFi wireless connectivity, a 30 page full duplex document feeder and Super G3 high speed fax capability. Other features include a built-in LCD display, printing from PictBridge compatible camera phones and digital cameras without a computer, and a USB 2.0 port. The PIXMA MX340 also features lab-quality photo printing at resolutions up to 4800 x 1200 dpi, a two cartridge ink system (1 color, 1 black) and ink droplets as small as 2pL. Scan resolution is 1200 x 2400 dpi and print speed is 8.4ipm black and 4.8ipm color (ipm is a new print speed standard that is equal to the number of 4 page Excel, Word and PDF documents the printer can print in 1 minute). The unit also features Auto Photo Fix II for perfect color photos, and borderless printing of photos up to 8-1/2" x 11".
ValueThe PIXMA MX340 represents a very good value in a home/small office printer at its street price. The wireless connectivity is convenient, and the 30 page document feeder increases productivity. Inclusion of G3 fax capability is unusual in this price range. The two cartridge ink system should help save on disposables - Canon uses a system whereby the black cartridge is only used to print text and the color cartridge produces its own blacks. Performance is also very good at this price point, with fast printing speeds and high resolution printing and scanning. FeaturesThe PIXMA MX340 does well in the features category when compared to the comparably priced competition. WiFi connectivity plus USB, the G3 fax capability, the 30-page document feeder and copying, printing and scanning all add up to a very productive office machine. The excellent quality photo printing and PictBridge capability are added bonuses. About the only thing to complain about is the absence of a built-in memory card reader, which is pretty much standard in this price range SummaryIf you need a good small office/home office all-in-one printer, the Canon PIXMA MX340 makes a very good choice. It's packed with features, and the performance specs are impressive. It meets or exceeds the specs for most of the competition, and you get Canon quality as an added bonus.
