If you are looking for good value in an all-in-one printer, maybe you should consider the Canon PIXMA MX700 Multifunction Network-Ready Printer/ Copier/ Scanner/ Fax. It performs fairly well for the price, producing up to 30 ppm in black and 20 ppm in color. The manufacturer even claims that this all-in-one can print a high-quality 4 x 6 photo in as little as 46 seconds. The features are more than enough for the average user, but if you are looking for something small and quiet, you should consider buying a different model. Despite its large size and noise, this all-in-one does a fine job for a reasonable price. This monster is a whopping 9.5" x 18.3" x 18.9" in size, and weighs nearly 23 lbs. It will hold up to 30 sheets of paper at one time and can make up to 99 multiple copies. It prints at a resolution of 600 x 600 in black and 4800 x 1200 in color, and scans at 2400 x 5800 dpi optical resolution. What's neat about the scanner is that it is sheet fed, which is different from other scanners that scan the same way a copier does. In addition to printing, scanning, and copying, this all-in-one comes with an integrated fax machine that has 40 speed dials and holds up to 100 pages in the memory. At 33.6 kbps, the fax feature can transmit one page approximately every 3 seconds. Another unique part of the fax is its ability to transmit color-faxes in addition to black-ink faxes, as long as the receiving and sending machines are compatible.
FeaturesModern "multifunction" printers boast an array of features and capabilities, and this model is no exception. It supports most modern Windows and Mac operating systems and comes loaded with the latest features. PictBridge functionality (for compatible cameras) is integrated for stand-alone operations. To satisfy PC users, this all-in-one includes a USB 2.0 port (cable not included), an Ethernet port (cable not included), and telephone port (cable included) for using the fax feature. The power cord, printer head, and necessary ink tanks (PGI-5 black, CLI-8 tricolor) are also included in the package, along with a drivers' disc. One important feature Canon neglected to include, however, was wireless networking. If you plan on using this model in an office that uses wireless connectivity, you will have to purchase or use an existing Ethernet-to-wireless router. ErgonomicsSomething else to note is the massive size of this device, so if you are tight on space it may not be for you. In my opinion, this model is bulky and slightly heavy. A few users have also complained that it is noisy and slow, but I cannot verify these claims against current device standards. Aside from a few complaints, most users find the all-in-one pleasant to use. It has an expansive front control panel with a small LCD screen that helps you get what you need done. SummaryMost people find that this model gets the job done well. The sheet feeder is automatic, the copier has automatic reduction and enlarges capabilities, the fax machine is fairly easy to use, and the drivers' disc includes helpful software. Overall, this printer is a high-quality, good value model for the price. Though bulky and lacking in wireless capabilities, the Canon MX700 Multifunction Network-Ready Printer/ Copier/ Scanner/ Fax is easy to use, with enough functionality to produce spectacular prints, scans, and faxes.
