The Canon PIXMA MX870 Wireless Office All-In-One Printer4206B002 is a new all-in-one wireless office quality inkjet printer from Canon. It features 9600 x 2400 print resolution, fast 9.4 ipm black and 6.1 ipm color printing speeds and 1pL minimum injket droplet size. Other features include built-in wired and wireless (Wifi) Ethernet, a USB 2.0 port, a multimedia card reader and a PictBridge port for printing photos directly from a PictBridge compatible digital camera or cell phone. The PIXMA MX870 also features borderless 4" x 6" photo printing in 39 seconds, a 2400 x 4800 dpi scan resolution for color photo copies, and Auto Photo Fix II, which automatically applies image correction, red-eye removal and exposure correction to images before printing them. There's a 2.5 inch color LCD display, a 35-page automatic document feeder with two-sided printing feature, and an optional Bluetooth wireless module provides wireless printing from Bluetooth-enabled devices, The unit also features built-in high speed G3 fax capability.
ValueThe PIXMA MX870 is not cheap, but it provides a good value when compared to the competition. Print and scan resolution are best in class, as is the printing speed. The 35 page automatic document feeder adds to productivity, as do the built-in display, connection options and the ability to print directly from multimedia cards or digital cameras. The printer uses a 5-color ink system, which should help save on disposables. In addition, the separate black ink cartridge is used only for printing text - the color cartridges produce their own blacks for photos. PerformanceThe PIXMA MX870 does very well in the performance category. Its fast printing speeds, high resolution printing and scanning, and 35 page document feeder are a bit above the competition, and it matches them on features as well. Photo print quality is excellent, and the Auto Photo Fix II feature works quite well. Color copying and scanning produce high quality images.
