Canon Vixia HF S100: Review
Canon Vixia HF S100 Review:

The Canon Vixia HF S100 camcorder offers up a high definition camcorder in a small and extremely portable package. The 8.9 megapixel camcorder offers crisp pictures and completely removes digital noise that was common in past camcorders. The camera has a nice small footprint and is easy to carry around even for long day trips which makes it a great portable option for vacation videos.

Canon has been producing cameras for a long time and they have gotten extremely good at it. The Canon instant auto focus helps to improve the focus speed and accuracy and uses an external sensor to offer a completely focused picture. The auto-focus is similar to what you would find on a regular Canon digital camera. The auto options on a camcorder is a must for me, shaking, moving and panning can create horrendously blurry pictures, but Canon's technology really helps with that.

Rating:  4.2 out of 5

Value

Canon has many features packed into this camcorder including auto focus and face-detection. These features make it really easy to film a great video especially if you do not have any experience. You may find the packaging to be appealing as well and the sleek design just makes the camera an even greater value. Overall the features offered in this HD camcorder put it far ahead of it's competitors and offers an all around great camera for a reasonable price. It is far from cheap, but for what it offers it's worth every penny. HD is where the market is headed in terms of camcorders and Canon comes in a bit ahead of the curve. This camcorder may not be necessary for those that already own one, but if this is your first venture into the video world or you need to replace an old or broken camcorder going HD is probably your best bet.

Ergonomics

The design of this camera has been crafted for portability. It is easy to hold even for someone with smaller hands and the fold out screen makes taking your movies a snap. The well placed control buttons never get in the way and the battery life is long enough to take the worry out of having it shut down in the middle of a video.

Summary

The feature set and HD offering from Canon is absolutely a major contender in the camcorder market. While it appears to be a bit pricey those who are looking to enter the camcorder market would be advised to invest in a HD camcorder from the get go as standard definition is rapidly being replaced with HD.
