Review: Dell S2309W

The Dell S2309W is a 23" HD widescreen flat panel LCD monitor, allowing you to get the most out of your movies, games, videos and images. The monitor features a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, a very fast response time of 5ms, and a 1000:1 contrast ratio for deep blacks, enhanced color saturation and fine detail in highlights and shadows.

The S2309W also features DVI-D with HDCP, which supports playback of protected content from Blu-ray Disc drives on PCs. In addition the unit features a sleek black bezel to complement most decors, and a security port for a Kensington cable lock. Specifications include a brightness level of 300 cd/m², a viewing angle of 170°, support for 16.7 million colors, and a pixel pitch of .266mm.

Value

The S2309W represents a good value for the price. Dell routinely offers instant rebates on their site, and the list price of this model is reasonable to begin with. In exchange for your money you get Dell's excellent reputation for quality and customer support. And Dell didn't scrimp on the specs with this model - they are just as good or better than most of the competition. The native 16:9 aspect ratio will provide you with a whole new experience in a PC monitor, and the high contrast ratio and brightness level makes for excellent viewing under a variety of lighting conditions.

Features

As we've already mentioned, Dell didn't scrimp on the features in order to achieve a large widescreen monitor at this price point. The full HD resolution, coupled with the high contrast ratio and brightness level, provide for excellent image quality. And that's true whether you're in a darkened room or a brightly lit one - images are excellent under all lighting conditions. You can couple the S2309W with its optional AX510PA multimedia sound bar for a true HD multimedia sound experience.

Summary

If you're thinking about purchasing a new system, or upgrading the monitor on your existing one, the Dell S2309W deserves a look. If you haven't seen a large true HD widescreen monitor in action, you owe it to yourself to visit a computer store and have a look - you'll be surprised at the amount of usable screen real estate one provides.
