Denon DVD1800BD: Review

Denon DVD1800BD: Review
The Denon DVD1800BD is a Blu-ray player that is fairly new to the market but it does everything you will need as Blu-ray player to do. It supports 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions so you are pretty much covered regardless of what HD resolution you are working with. Besides playing Blu-ray discs the device also handles traditional DVDs, CDs and picture CDs. As it is not a region free player, you will need Region 1 DVDs and Region A Blu-ray discs.

The Denon Blu-ray player is a well executed player, providing quality and precision. The DVD1800BD connects to via an HDMI cable, component or composite but while it lacks an optical output, it still has a digital coax for home theater surround sound.

Rating:  4.6 out of 5

Features

The DVD1800 Blu-ray player offers CD and DVD playback. It also supports DIVX files and allows you to shut off the front panel to eliminate all noise for the best possible sound quality. The device also has deep color support and provides consumers with a built in SD card slot for viewing pictures on the television. The SD card slot is a really nice addition to the Blu-ray player. While the Denon Blu-ray player doesn't allow for the same streaming content as some of other Blu-ray players, the SD card and digital formats almost make up for the lack of network connections.

Denon has a pretty solid remote for its Blu-ray player. It is not overly huge and responds quickly and accurately to commands. You will want to hold onto the remote because you can't do anything from the player with the exception of turning it on. If you do misplace the remote, hope you never put in a Blu-ray that requires you to go more than one screen to get the movie or show to play.

Ergonomics

The Denon Blu-ray player is one of the best I've seen in the recent line up. The buttons are well placed and easy to use; I found the connection process very simple. Denon does an unbelievable job of keeping the entire device nice and thin.

Summary

The Denon player does everything I would want it to do. It does not overcomplicate the player, which is a nice change of pace from players that have attempted to add in extra features that don't work properly. With the Denon you know exactly what you are getting and it's executed perfectly.
