Epson WorkForce 40: Review

The Epson WorkForce 40 inkjet printer is Epson's latest edition to their excellent WorkForce line of office products aimed at the small and home office market. Boasting up to 38ppm output, the WorkForce 40 features both wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wifi) network connections for easy sharing in a small or home office environment.

The WorkForce 40 features laser quality text output at laser speeds, and printouts are smudge, fade and water resistant and highlighter-friendly. The unit features an extra high-capacity black ink cartridge, individual color ink cartridges and can print outstanding touchable photos. The unit also features built-in double-sided printing and a maximum print resolution of 5760x1440 optimized dpi.

Value

The Epson WorkForce 40 represents an excellent value for the street price when you consider price versus performance. It can print laser quality text at up to 27ppm, so it's the perfect choice for office environments where a lot of text documents are printed. It's priced lower than most of the competition, yet provides better performance. The output is laser quality in more ways than one - it's immediately dry. The built-in networking options make the printer easy to setup and share, and the print speed means it can handle your small office workload without you print jobs backing up.

Performance

The WorkForce 40 really shines in the performance category, especially when you consider the price. The 38ppm draft output is best in class, as is the 27ppm laser quality output. And it prints photos at reasonable speeds, too. The built-in double-sided printing feature is a big plus, as is the wired and wireless networking capability. And the high capacity black ink cartridge solves a common problem in office environments - you're always replacing black ink cartridges on most inkjet printers.

If you're in the market for a shared home or small office document printer, the WorkForce 40 makes an excellent choice.
