Fujifilm FinePix F100fd: Review
Fujifilm FinePix F100fd review:

Consumers who are looking for a compact digital camera that is loaded with features and new technologies should consider the Fujifilm FinePix F100fd. If you are tired of the simple point-and-shoot and want something with a little more picture-power, this model takes incredible 12-megapixel shots with an ISO range up to 3200, and 3-megapixel shots at an ISO range up to 12800. The ultrahigh sensitivity, combined with Wide Dynamic Range and a 5x optical zoom, makes the FinePix F100fd well worth trying.

This camera is very compact and "pocketable." It measures 3.8 x 2.3 x 0.9 inches and weighs 6 ounces. As far as compatibility, it supports xD-Picture Card, SD, and SDHC memory cards. Still images are shot in JPEG format (4,000 x 3,000 resolution), movies in AVI format, and audio in monaural WAVE format. It is also equipped with a 28mm wide angle lens and 5x optical zoom to bring those moments even closer and clearer. In addition, the FinePix F100fd features updated technologies and processing chips that enhance images. If you want great features, this is the camera for you. Unfortunately, it suffers from poor battery life and substandard picture quality when the settings are switched to ISO 12800 range.

Rating:  3.4 out of 5

Value

This camera can be considered valuable because of the many new features and updated architecture; however, it is a little overpriced. If you want all the latest enhancements and shooting modes, the Fujifilm FinePix F100fd is definitely for you. But considering the picture quality is challenged by that of some predecessors, the price doesn't seem to be justify. And the poor battery life doesn't help. If you want better quality prints, stick with a camera that performs better at the high end ISO's or spend more on a higher-end DSLR camera. This entry-level model still needs improvement before it can be considered an excellent value for the price.

Features

New to the FinePix series is a camera that features brand new Face Detection 3.0 technology, which is widely improved over the previous version. If you are going to be taking a lot of group shots, this camera is highly recommended for you. Also new are the many easy shooting modes, which automatically adjust the camera settings for your environment. In addition, this camera features the next generation SUPER CCD VIII sensor and the new RP (Real Photo) Processor III.

Summary

The Fujifilm FinePix F100fd produces spectacular pictures using the 12 megapixels, but once the settings are switched to ISO 12800 range, things get ugly. The manufacturer tried to make up for lost ground by integrating a 12 megapixel chip and as a result, the quality may suffer. As far as features, this camera includes many new and updated technologies within its design. If you like to have current architecture, this is the camera for you. But considering the battery life is poor and the print quality isn't always great, you may want to shop around before deciding upon this one.

  • Very compact- 28mm lens with 5x optical zoom, plus flash
  • Ultra-sensitive- features ISO range of up to 12800 (3MP shots)
