Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 41896EU: Review

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 41896EU is a new 14" LED widescreen notebook from Lenovo. The unit features a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor, 4GB of DDR3 ram and a 500GB hard drive. Other features include a DVD RW optical drive, Intel GMA 4500HD graphics processor and a 1.3MP webcam.

The IdeaPad Y450 also includes Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system, an HD-capable screen resolution of 1366 x 768 and 802.11b/g WiFi wireless. Other connectivity options include wired Ethernet, Firewire, 3 USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI output and 1 eSATA port. The unit also includes a multimedia card reader, a VGA output and an S/PDIF port. The unit features a 6 cell lithium ion battery and weighs just 4.5 pounds.

Value

At its current street price, the IdeaPad Y450 represents an excellent value in a full-featured laptop. It has most of the features found on the comparable 14" notebook competition, but is available at a lower price. The 14" widescreen LED display panel is a big plus - some of the comparably priced competition are still using LCD displays, and there's a vast difference in brightness and image quality. Also, the 4GB of ram and 500GB HD are above average in this price range.

Features

The IdeaPad Y450 is strong on features. The already mentioned LED display is the most prominent feature, providing a very rewarding laptop experience. Add to this the dual-core processor, high end graphics processor and ample ram, and the Y450 makes an excellent multimedia machine, although it's suitable for most any use. It has all of the connectivity options you're likely to need (except for Bluetooth), and it's small and lightweight.

Summary

If you're in the market for a multimedia notebook, or just a good all around unit, the IdeaPad Y450 makes an excellent choice. It's packed with features for the price, and the LED display panel sets it apart from the crowd. All in all a well above average offering from Lenovo that's available at a very reasonable price.
