LG W2052TG-TF: Review
LG W2052TG-TF  : Review

A 2ms response time and 16:10 widescreen aspect ratio makes the LG W2052TG-TF  a 20inch monitor that is hard to move past. The 1680x1050 true widescreen resolution also makes for great quality gaming and video viewing. There is an intrusive startup sound which LG lists as 'pleasant' each time the monitor starts up that should be disabled out of the box, but the rest of the monitor is thoroughly worth consideration.

Part of the Flatron format series, the W2052TG makes use of LG's proprietary Flatron f-engine. This engine uses a combination of DAFI technology and Real Color Management to provide a more natural color display on the monitor. Ez Zooming is also available giving the user the ability to switch the screen resolution by pushing a single button on the monitors control panel, effectively reducing the current resolution by one level each time. There is a 3 year SWAP warranty on the product to provide the consumer with added assurance.

Rating:  3.8 out of 5

Features

The 2ms, gray to gray response time is lightning fast and the 10000:1 contrast ratio provides great color range. With pixel pitches of 0.258 x 0.258 and a standard maximum color display of 16.7 million colors, this monitor is capable of handling the tasks any gamer or everyday user would throw at it. There are VGA and DVI inputs and eZ Zooming for those wishing to switch between different resolutions on the fly. Photo effects modes and also be enabled via the control panel to give different effects, such as blur or sepia, to the images on screen.

Performance

Monitors need to be able to keep up with the technology that is evolving around them, so the 2ms response time of the W2052TG means the display will continue to be future proof for quite awhile. The inclusion of the LG clear vision system helps the monitor perform with a variety of images, reducing the effect of eyestrain that may be caused by long exposure to the display. This system also helps give the most clear and natural image display every time.

Summary

LG is a big force in LCD monitors so you can expect quality and reliable ongoing support. The baffling inclusion of a 'startup sound' probably marks the W2052TG down, but there are other features to detract from this design hiccup. 2ms response time and 20inch widescreen view, means that this monitor can handle all but your most intensive graphic design tasks. Turn off the startup sound and you'll enjoy the capabilities of this display all the more.

Pros

  • 2ms Response time
  • Widescreen resolution
  • Value for money in 20inch range
  • Quality producer

Cons

  • Intrusive startup sound
