LG BD570 review : Network Blu-ray Disc Player with integrated Wi-Fi connectivity

LG BD570 review : Network Blu-ray Disc Player with integrated Wi-Fi connectivity
If you are looking for unrivaled entertainment in a Blu-Ray disc player at a fairly reasonable price, then look no further than the LG BD570, which offers the latest high-definition technologies paired with networking capabilities. With both wired and wireless connectivity, now you can access thousands of movies, online videos, and several major streaming services at the click of a button. Because this disc player is focused solely on high-definition content, your standard DVDs may not up-convert well; however, considering everything else that the LG BD570 does, we give it two thumbs up.

Measuring 16.9" x 1.7" x 8.0" and weighing just over 6 lbs, the LG BD570 Network Blu-Ray Disc Player is yet another fine example of the market trend towards slimmer disc players. This particular model beats several competing players by a few inches, but a few inches matters when your entertainment center is limited on space. Other improvements for the BD570 include faster disc loading time and optimized online connectivity and services. As far as the price tag goes, the cost seems mainstream, so the majority of consumers will find it quite reasonable.

Rating:  4.4 out of 5

Quality

LG has built a reputation of trusted service and product quality, and the same applies to this Blu-Ray player. Several third-party benchmarks have been run to determine the quality of high-definition offered by the player, and it aced virtually every one. But like many electronics, the BD570 is not flawless; standard DVDs do not look as artifact-free as when upconverted by other players. Needless to say, if you are seeking this device simply for Blu-Ray playback, then you will not be disappointed.

Features

Aside from playback performance, one of the top priorities on a consumer's list is the product features. The LG BD570 includes integrated Wi-Fi connectivity (wired Ethernet onboard too), NetCast Entertainment Access, Home Link, superior audio performance, Express Reaction Startup, USB 2.0 media host, and SimpLink technology. As far as ports go, this model comes with one composite video, one component video, one HDMI, one analog audio out (L/R), digital coaxial, digital optical, the LAN port (RJ-45), and a USB 2.0 plug.

Summary

If you do not mind the minor flaws, such as limited standard DVD upscaling and poorly designed remote, then by all means this may just be the Blu-Ray player for you. The LG BD570 combines the connectivity of integrated wireless and wired networking with the diversity of the online entertainment streaming services, such as Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, Roxio CinemaNow, Pandora, Picasa, and AccuWeather. And at a price that most consumers can afford, you really cannot go wrong with this product.

Pros

  • Modern-integrated connectivity with support for online streaming
  • Performer- fast load time, passes Blu-Ray tests with flying colors
  • Featured- enhanced by several advanced codes and technologies
  • Valued- price is excellent for the features and performance

Cons

  • Imperfect- standard DVD upscaling and remote need improvement
