Magellan Maestro 4370: Review
Magellan Maestro 4370 Review:

The Magellan Maestro 4370 , a step up from the company's Maestro 4250, offers a new touch-screen interface called One Touch that allows quick access to frequently visited destinations and searches. One Touch is a real timesaver for navigating to frequent destinations or searching for your favorite restaurant chain wherever you happen to be. The 4370 also features text to speech functionality, Bluetooth connectivity and lane guidance for safer driving.

The unit features a 4.3 in. WVGA color touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It delivers clear, crisp images and the touch interface works flawlessly. You can save favorite locations and searches (for specific restaurant chains, etc.) to an icon using the One Touch feature. The unit features a built-in FM transmitter for listening to voice guidance through your car's stereo system, and allows you to dial and receive calls from your Bluetooth enabled phone in hands-free mode.

Rating:  4.4 out of 5

Value

The 4370 is a bit pricey, but you get a lot of features and functionality for your money. It's competitively priced when compared to similar models from Garmin and TomTom. The unit features 3D landmarks and announces street names and directions at each turn. Lane guidance gives you plenty of warning for when you need to change lanes for an upcoming exit or turn. The Live Traffic capability gives you real-time warning of traffic slowdowns up ahead and the Smart Detour function quickly gives you an alternate route to bypass the traffic.

Features

The Maestro 4370 is packed with features. In addition to those already mentioned, the unit features a built-in AAA TourBook which gives you instant access to AAA-rated destinations, restaurants, lodgings, etc., and AAA roadside assistance which gives your exact location and the AAA number to call in case of roadside trouble. The unit is pre-programmed with 6 million POIs (Points Of Interest), including gas stations, restaurants, ATMs and coffee shops. There's a pedestrian mode that continues to give you directions after you've parked your car. There's even an integrated MP3 player for storing your favorite music.

Summary

If the Maestro 4370 falls within your budget range, you would be hard-pressed to beat the features at any price. Apart from some occasional sluggishness in menu navigation and sometimes choppy voice directions, the unit performs flawlessly. The unit comes with everything you need for dashboard or windshield mounting, and can last up to 4 hours when using the rechargeable battery pack - great for that sightseeing trip with lots of walking to do. If you're in the market for a mid to high end GPS system, the Maestro 4370 definitely deserves a look.
