Mitsubishi LT-52246: Review
If you are looking to update your aging CRT or projection TV, and you want something with a much smaller footprint, then you may want to check out the Mitsubishi LT-52246. Offering users a 52 inch screen that can actually fit in the space of 46 inch screen, the Mitsubishi LT-52246 offers users more viewable area with less space taking bezel like other models in its price range tend to have. Combine this with a matte screen, which is now rare to find on any LCD currently available on the market, and you have a quality set that can turn heads with a quality picture that is not hindered by a room full of windows in bright sunlight.

The LT-52246 is a 52 inch 1080p LCD that offers Plush 1080p video format conversion with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 that is equipped with a NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuner. It also offers users a frame refresh rate of 120Hz which is now becoming the standard for nearly any manufacturer releasing new LCDs to the market. The LT-52246 also comes equipped with 4 HDMI inputs, 2 composite, 2 s-video, and a side USB photo input, which packs a lot of functionality into a thin package. While the LT-52246 may be lacking the pc input that can commonly be found on its competitors models, the picture quality that the LT-52246 delivers far surpasses the quality of the image delivered by these other models packed with feature the average viewer may never even use.

Features

A unique feature that can be found on the LT-52246 is its USB photo port. This feature gives you the ability to connect your digital camera, USB thumb drive or USB card reader to the port, which then allows you to view all your images on the screen. The LT-52246 gives you the ability to view your still images in single photo, slideshow, or even thumbnail fashion. Single photo gives you the ability to rotate photos in 90 degree increments, while thumbnail allows you to view 10 images at any given time. The LT-52246 only supports still images from digital cameras utilizing the Exchangeable Image File Format, so if your camera is quite old, there is a chance the images will not display. It also has the ability to view JPEG's created by digital cameras, but if you modify an image on the PC and re-save it, there is a chance that the TV may not be able to read the image.

The LT-52246 also comes equipped with a DeepField Imager that helps to provide the best picture by constantly adjusting the brightness and contrast of the image for optimum settings in all areas of the picture being displayed. This feature also gives the LT-52246 the ability to optimize complex scenes that contain both dark and bright areas. This feature works by analyzing 135 sectors of a picture in real time while performing an analysis to determine what the best blend of contrast and brightness is needed to deliver the best picture. Using its advanced algorithms it constantly adjusts areas that are too bright or too dark in an effort to deliver the best possible image every time.

Another unique feature to the LT-52246 is the SharpEdge processor. This signal processing system helps deliver a quality image by enhancing horizontal and vertical edges for a striking picture every time. The SharpEdge system works by sensing the vertical boundaries which it then amplifies while minimizing the distortion that this process can create resulting in a an image with crisp, sharp edges that can be hard to find on competitors models.

The best feature on the LT-52246 is its Variable Smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This feature helps to eliminate motion blur which can be quite common in fast moving action scenes and displays more fluid, natural and smoother fast moving images. When you remove the motion blur and improve the performance, these scenes become much more natural and less likely to make the viewer nauseous from poor imaging processing.

Performance

Image performance on the LT-52246 can be considered much better than those that are found on competitor's models. The most common comment is that the image appears almost 3-D allowing the performance of the LT-52246 to seem to be far beyond comparable models in its price range.

The only gripe people tend to have with this model is the performance of the internal speakers the LT-52246 comes equipped with. As LCD's and other flat panels continue to get thinner, their increased quality and performance is usually made at the expense of a quality sound system that may have been common on older TV's. While this is by no means a reason to remove this TV from your consideration, just remember you will need to utilize some form of surround sound setup to get the most out of what the LT-52246 has to offer.

Summary

In conclusion, the LT-52246 provides a quality image that may be hard to come by on competitors sets in the same price range. If you are looking for a quality image, and you don't mind sacrificing sound quality to get it, then the Mitsubishi LT-52246 may be the way to go.
