The Nikon AF NIKKOR 180mm f/2.8 IF-ED is a high-performance, medium telephoto lens designed to capture fast moving action such as sporting events and other fast paced events. This lens is great for astronomical photography as well. This lens has an internal focus for fast AF operation. Even at maximum aperture, the ED elements in this lens guarantee sharp images. This lens has a focal length of 180mm. Aperture range is from f22-f2.8. It is constructed with 8 elements in 6 groups, with 1 ED element. It includes internal focusing, with a minimum focusing distance of 5ft/1.5 meters. The filter size is 72mm. It includes a built in lens hood.
QualityThe images produced with this lens have true color and are sharp with great contrast. The lens balances well on the camera and focuses fairly quickly. There seems to be no light fall off at f2.8, no distortion and no real ghosting. This is a great lens for fast, compact images. PerformanceThis lens quickly captures brilliant images with great contrast and true colors. The Af speed is good. It can be a bit of a pain to switch between AF and manual focusing. You need to use the switch on both the body and the lens itself. The manual focus is very good. This is an excellent lens to choose if you only want to use the manual focus mode. Using the Af mode without disengaging the manual focus does not work. This lens has virtually no distortion. SummaryThis Nikon lens is decidedly sharp with great contrast and true color. This is a great professional lens that is very sharp at f2.8 and brilliant at f4. The lens balances well on the camera and it focuses fast enough to capture almost any event. Manual focus is great, as well. Overall, this is a great lens for a compact, quick image. Pros
