Nikon D300S: Review
Nikon D300S Review:

Nikon's D300S is a step ahead for Digital SLR cameras, with the introduction of HD recording now available. The D300s also provides an increase in the capability of audio recording in conjunction with its ability to record in 720p / 24fps. Due for release in August 2009, professional photographers and budding photography enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting their chance to upgrade their existing SLR camera.

720p / 24fps HD video recording is unseen in the digital SLR camera market so Nikon has managed to over deliver with the D300S. The option for an external microphone input is available for superior sound recording and the camera also includes the ability for 7fps burst shooting. With a 12.3 megapixel DX sensor and 920k pixel screen for crisp picture review on the go, the D300S is an SLR performance powerhouse, which has given consumers access to HD recording capabilities.

Rating:  4.6 out of 5

Features

The D300s is packed full of features to keep any level of photographer content with their new camera purchase. Included is a rechargeable Li-ion battery and duel memory card slots to ensure you are always able to capture that important shot. Weighing 1lb 14oz without battery or memory cards, the D300s includes a proprietary scene recognition system that delivers more information from the cameras internal sensors so that your shot is more accurate than ever. Rounding out this list of impressive features, the camera also provides a 100% viewfinder frame coverage, meaning you will capture whatever you see, all the time.

Performance

Performance is important when dealing with a camera designed for professional photography, and it is here that Nikon D300s continues to impress. The camera starts up in roughly 130milliseconds (ms) and has a shutter time lag of 49ms. To contribute to its overall performance the unit includes Nikons dust reduction system that vibrates dust away from sensors, meaning the shot will never be disturbed by a buildup of dust. With a high speed USB interface to transfer pictures and video quickly from your camera, the D300s is now the leader in next generation digital SLR cameras.

Summary

Keeping technology advancements under wraps is hard enough with the speed information travels today, so Nikon have really managed to surprise the industry when introducing the D300s as a result. Keeping their ergonomic design of previous models and packing this new model full of next gen features such as HD recording really shows their commitment to producing a high quality camera that satisfies consumer need. Expect other manufacturers to try and match what Nikon has done here.
