Nikon D40x: Review
Nikon D40x Review:

If you need a compact digital SLR camera but don't want to pay more than a few hundred dollars, then the Nikon D40x DSLR may be for you. This model is Nikon's smallest digital SLR ever made, yet it is less expensive than bulkier competitors and features just as many functions. With a short startup delay and fast shutter speed, this camera takes snapshots more efficiently than its predecessors with better picture quality.

This award-winning 10.2-megapixel digital SLR camera measures approximately 5 in x 3.7 in x 2.5 in and weighs a little more than one pound. Just because this is Nikon's smallest D-SLR yet does not mean that it cannot have impressive features and take great pictures. Digital SLR technology has come so far that newer models have everything the old models had and more- in a smaller size too. So if you are looking for a high-performance, high-quality compact D-SLR, then consider the Nikon D40x. It is priced appropriately (unlike some competitors) as a great value for your picture needs.

Rating:  4.6 out of 5

Features

The Nikon D40x features the capabilities of most other digital SLR cameras, but what makes this model so special is its high-performance Nikon DX format CCD sensor and unique image processor. The 2.5 inch LCD display with 170-degree wide angle viewing helps you preview your pictures clear and up close, with magnifications up to 19 times. The Nikon D40x features a built-in Speedlight with i-TTL automatic flash control, which is great for those tricky low-level light situations. One of the most exciting functions of the new advanced image system is the in-camera image editing. In addition, there is an environment settings assistance function, Nikon 3D Color Matrix Metering II feature, 8 different automatic shooting modes, and several image optimization options. Overall, this is a powerful compact camera that won't disappoint as far as features go.

Ergonomics

The Nikon D40x D-SLR is Nikon's smallest digital SLR camera made to date. It is lightweight and easy to carry, making it perfect for those instances when you need to take high-quality shots fast. Nikon has become a pioneer in the market of compact D-SLRs, especially with the release of this top-notch camera. It has all the capabilities and quality of larger, more expensive models, yet it is relatively compact and stylish. This handy camera is great for hobbyists or professionals who need a back-up D-SLR or one for on the run.

Summary

It's hard to critique an award-winning 10.2-megapixel digital SLR when it features an advanced imaging system and takes excellent pictures. Overall, the Nikon D40x gets two thumbs up for picture quality and ergonomics. While this model lacked several features found in competing models, this camera is perfect to use for on-the-go shooting. It snaps over 450 pictures with a single charge, and comes with a bundle of accessories that make camera operation worthwhile. Although the Nikon D40x isn't perfect, Nikon has shown that it is improving its camera line every day.
