Polk Audio RTi A3: Review

The Polk Audio RTi A3 speakers are a pair of medium price range bookshelf speakers. They feature a real wood cabinet with all MDF construction, a 6.5 inch dynamic balance mineral/polymer composite cone driver and a 1" silk/polymer composite dome tweeter. They also feature Power Port technology to reduce port noise and a neodymium magnet on the driver.

Other features include low viscosity ferro-fluid cooling and a heatsink on the back of the magnet. They feature a frequency response of 40Hz-27KHz, a power handling capacity of 150W peak, and a recommended amplifier power range of 20-125W. Efficiency is 89db at 1W/1M and the crossover frequency is set at 2.8Khz. 5-way binding posts are provided for hookup. The speakers have a nominal impedance of 8 ohms.

Value

The RTI A3 speakers are a bit on the pricey side, but have the build quality and performance to match the price. They use some advanced technologies, and produce excellent sound at all listening levels. They are reasonably priced when compared to models from the competition with similar performance. The real wood cabinet adds to the value, and the materials used to construct the driver and the tweeter should provide years of listening enjoyment.

Features

The RTI A3 speakers use some relatively advanced technology when compared to the competition. Driver and tweeter construction use advanced materials, and the ferro-fluid cooling system is advanced as well, Real wood construction of the cabinet is both handsome and functional, and frequency response is excellent. The speakers are very efficient yet they have a high power handling capacity. They should perform well as stereo speakers or as front or rear surround speakers.

Summary

If you're building a medium range stereo or surround system, the RTI A3 speakers would make an excellent choice as bookshelf speakers for a stereo system or as surround speakers. From faithful bass reproduction to crisp, clean highs, sound is excellent. The real wood cabinets are handsome and should go with just about any decor. All in all an excellent offering from Polk Audio.
