Samsung BD-P3600: Review
The Samsung BD-P3600 is a full-featured Blu-ray player with excellent performance specs. The player features 1080p output, 1080p upscaling of existing content, Internet connectivity and a USB WiFi dongle for wireless connectivity. The unit also features HDMI out, 7.1 channel analog surround outputs, and 2 USB 2.0 ports.

The BD-P3600 features 1GB of on-board memory for downloading BD-Live content from the Internet, a very convenient remote control unit, and both Netflix and Pandora video streaming. There's also an optical digital audio output, convenient touch controls placed on the top of the device near the front, and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding. The BD-P3600 is a handsome unit, housed in a sleek cabinet with rounded corners.

Rating:  4.8 out of 5

Features

The BD-P3600 has all the features found in the latest Blu-ray disc players. BD-Live compatibility with onboard memory, 1080p upscaling of existing content, WiFi connectivity and USB connections are all features found on similarly priced competitors. In addition, the Netflix streaming allows Netflix subscribers to stream any movie in the Watch Now category to the player, rather than having to watch it on their PC. This is a huge plus, as Netflix has thousands of movies available for streaming.

Performance

The BD-P3600 loads Blu-ray discs faster than any device we've tested, with the exception of the Sony PS3. Loading time has been one of the biggest complaints about Blu-ray players, and Samsung has taken a giant step forward with the BD-P3600. It's no slouch in the image quality department either, delivering a true HD viewing experience. The 1080p upconversion of existing DVDs is also excellent.

Summary

If you're in the market for a Blu-ray player, you should give the BD-P3600 a good look. It's a bit pricey, but has the features to match the price, And performance speed and image quality are excellent. If you're into gaming, you can get a PS3 for about the same price, but if not, the BD-P3600 is a best in class Blu-ray player.
