Sharp BD-HP21U: Review
The Sharp BD-HP21U Blu-ray disc player is a new addition to the Sharp AQUOS line of video components. It features AQUOS Link, which allows it to work seamlessly over the HDMI connection with other AQUOS components such as LCD TVs. The BD-HP21U also features full HD 1920x1080p 24fps output, 7.1 channel surround sound and a Quick Start mode which allows Blu-ray discs to start up in as little as 10 seconds.

The unit also features HDMI output for a single cable connection for both audio and video, Dolby True HD sound and HDMI 1080p upscaling of existing DVDs. The unit can display JPEG images from a CD, features a pop-up on screen menu system and has a parental lock control. The AQUOS Link function allows you to control the Blu-ray player using the remote from your AQUOS LCD TV. The BD-HP21U can also be used to display video clips from CD media.

The BD-HP21U represents an excellent value in a full HD Blu-ray disc player. It has all of the basic features at a very reasonable price. The 1080p upconversion of existing DVDs delivers excellent quality output, and the 7.1 channel surround sound is the most theater-like sound format available. Support for Dolby True HD adds to the realism, and the AQUOS link function is very convenient if you have other Sharp AQUOS video components. The street price is lower than most of the competition.
