Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 Review

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 Review
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 review:

If you are a looking for a digital camera that has 10.1 megapixel, but can also connect wirelessly to your internet in order to upload pictures directly to a photo sharing site, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 is what you'll need. Though the inclusion of internet connectivity to add more features to a camera is admirable, it does miss the mark.

For a digital camera to be a successful product, traditional features such as shutter speed, megapixel and zoom have been looked at to measure camera effectiveness. Inclusion of internet connectivity and photo upload to popular sharing sites, while extending features, does not offer anything in terms of camera functionality. It won't allow photos to be taken better, or simpler, and is a feature more attuned to regular uses of such online services.

Rating:  3.6 out of 5

Features

The 3.5inch extra fine LCD touch screen display does make viewing pictures on the fly a lot easier, with available detail higher than previous models. The Sony DSC-G3 comes equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar 4x optical zoom lens for distance shots. There are Anti Blur features and Face detection technology to put the camera in control of the shot you are taking, removing some of the guesswork that can often lead to a bad shot being produced. These features all work well when you are considering uploading pictures on the fly to services such as Youtube, but with a lack of availability of any social networking site, a primary location for picture sharing with friends, the feature of wireless connectivity is useless.

Performance

Shutter speed of the DSC-G3 Cybershot ranges from 1/4 to 1/1000 of a second in automated mode with an overall aperture range of F3.5 to F10. When added in with other technology that this camera has, such as Anti Blink mode and SteadyShot image stabilization, you can take quality portraits in multiple different locations. There is Intelligent Scene Recognition to also increase the quality of image that is captured by the camera, providing flexibility in the usage that this compact digital model has.

Summary

Whilst the Cybershot DSC-G3 is feature packed, inclusion of wireless capability and photo sharing doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. For taking pictures in varying situation, the DSC-G3 has all the technology needed to be a successful compact digital camera for everyday or holiday shots, but some more design thought would have identified that there are more suitable options out there for photo upload to the internet than using your camera.

Pros

  • 10.1 Megapixel
  • SteadyShot Stabilization
  • 3.5inch LCD Touch Screen
  • Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar 4x Optical Zoom

Cons

  • Internet connectivity isn't useful
