Sony VAIO CW Series VPCCW13FX/B: Review

One of the premiere notebooks that tend to go unnoticed is the Sony VAIO CW Series VPCCW13FX/B Notebook PC, which surprisingly exceeds expectations on all points. If you like features like one-touch Web access, powerful computing, and casual gaming, then you will definitely like this notebook. It may not be perfect, but it is quite impressive for the price- even more impressive than some of the more expensive competitors. If you're ready to purchase a new notebook, and you want the balance of features that this notebook offers, then by all means give it your considerations.

Value

Each notebook in the VAIO series has a different price level, and with different price tags comes different features and performance levels. This particular notebook is more "mid-range" in regards to VAIO pricing, and that is because several high-end features such as a biometric fingerprint scanner are not included. The graphics chipset has also been downgraded, and that is probably the only downside to this notebook. Performance-wise, it surprises us and exceeds expectations. Overall, this may not be the best value, but it certainly is one of the better models available.

Features

Impressively enough, the VPCCW13FX/B is more of a performer than anything else. The reason being that it features a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4GB DDR3 RAM integrated within Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). To suit all your media storage needs, this model comes with a 320GB hard drive and double-layer DVD burner. For networking, it includes an Atheros 802.11b/g/n Wireless Network Connection, integrated Bluetooth, and Ethernet. Regarding graphics, it comes with the lower-end NVIDIA GeForce G210M (with 256MB RAM) chipset.

Summary

For the price, this notebook is certainly hard to beat. It is considered "mid-range" in the VAIO series, but the features and performance it provides suggests otherwise. The graphics card is substandard, so you shouldn't plan to do any heavy gaming. Needless to say, the computer can perform the majority of tasks without a hiccup. If you're not ready to spend upwards of $1000 for a notebook, yet you still want something powerful and reliable, take a look at the 14" Sony VAIO CW Series VPCCW13FX/B Notebook PC.

Pros

  • Vivid- 14-inch LCD display powered by NVIDIA GeForce G210M
  • Powerful- 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • Travel-friendly- features Bluetooth, 802.11a/b/g/n, and Ethernet
  • Exceeds expectations-excellent value in features and performance for the price

Cons

  • Still lacking- graphics card could be better, battery life still needs improvement
