The Sony VAIO W Series mini notebook VPCW111XX/T sits in the large group of manufacturer notebooks that have decided to come out with a Netbook. The VPCW111XXT is a mini-notebook that has a 10.1inch viewable display and 1GB of RAM to go with its 160GB hard drive. This laptop is not designed to be a top performer that you can expect massive benchmark test scores from. The mini notebook category is for a specific market looking for a system that is easily moved around and is capable of looking after all the day-to-day computer tasks that a casual user would require. Nothing wrong with producing for a specific market and the VAIO W Series does give you all you would expect from a mini notebook.
ValueA mini notebook should always be a system that is capable of providing the consumer the best value for money available, while not compromising too far on the features available. The VPCW111XXT encapsulates that goal quite successfully. You have the ability to browse the web or get involved in a web cam chat via the inbuilt camera and microphone. Sony have chosen to keep Windows XP as there preferred install option, which is good for this range of VAIO as anything else would most likely bring the laptop to a grinding halt. FeaturesThis VAIO laptop uses the Intel ATOM processor which is increasing its popularity in the mini-notebook category. It is roughly a combination of their thinking with the Celeron processor of old that was often seen as the cheaper alternative to processors so that Intel could compete on price with AMD. 1GB of RAM is included in this system as is a 160GB hard drive for storage. There is also a multimedia card reader for easier transfer of your photos and videos from your camera or you could choose to use the Motion Eye Camera & Microphone that is built into the laptop SummaryGood features are packed into the Sony VAIO W Series VPCW111XXT for the casual computer user and if you are looking to get someone their first laptop that they can easily travel with you are on the right track here. Whilst overall performance is a bit lacking and the omission of a DVD drive is a little frustrating, for a 10inch mini notebook there is an adequate set of features that should satisfy most of you looking for a value for money purchase.
